Description
The Kings Arms is a public house located in Marazion Market Place, dating from the early 18th century. It features stuccoed walls with some brick and has a steep hipped roof covered in scantle slate, complete with gabled roof dormers and 19th-century crested ridge tiles. The building has a cornice with modillions from the 18th century. There are brick stacks on the rear wall to the left and two stacks on the side wall to the right.
The layout consists of two rooms with a cross passage leading to a central stair, and a lower service wing with one room that is set back on the right. There is a rear entrance hall to the right of the main stair, providing separate access to the service wing. The exterior is two storeys plus an attic, originally featuring a symmetrical three-window front with a central doorway, alongside a one-window front of the 18th-century service wing.
Keyed segmental arches are present over the original front openings, while flat arches are found on the left side wall. The doorway and the window to the left of the doorway were remodeled and embellished in the early 20th century when a gabled porch was added, and a canted bay window with a central gable was inserted into an enlarged window opening. The horned sashes, which have more glazing bays in the top sashes, likely date from the same period. The service wing features an 18th-century 16-pane two-light casement with wide glazing bars at the front, and at the rear, there is an 18th-century 12-pane arched stair sash. The interior includes an original dog-leg stair with a balustrade that has been boarded over, while the first floor and roof structure have not been inspected.
