Description

The Cottage is a house, likely dating to the 17th century or earlier. It is constructed of granite rubble, with a rendered front facade. The left-hand gable end features a rubble stack with a tall brick shaft, and the roof is covered with partly grouted scantle slate, with a lower slope at the rear.

The layout is a double-depth plan, incorporating a later outshut and a 19th-century wash house to the rear left. The front of the house originally contained two large rooms with a cross passage leading to a central stairwell between service rooms at the rear. An earth closet is located at the front left.

The north-west front is irregular, with two windows. A doorway is positioned slightly right of the centre. The window openings are square, with 12-pane, two-light casements. The first floor to the right features a wider three-opening arrangement, with a 12-pane, two-light casement and a 9-pane casement. To the left of the doorway, two windows are closely spaced; the left-hand window is in a higher opening, possibly used as a doorway at some point. The interior has not been inspected, and early features are not visible.
