Description

Marazion Bakery is a shop with accommodation that was originally a house, likely built in the 17th century and remodeled in the 18th and 19th centuries. It features granite rubble construction with dressed granite quoins and jambstones, and the rear is rendered. The roof is made of scantle slate with brick chimneys at the gable ends, and some handmade crested clay ridge tiles from the 17th century are present, with slurring at the rear. A cast-iron ogee gutter is located at the front.

The building has a two-room plan, with the shop at the front and a former service room in a wing at right angles behind it. The truncated walls of a former building on the left may have originally been part of the same house. The exterior is two storeys high, featuring one window on the northwest front. The ground floor has a 20th-century remodeled shopfront, while above it is an early 19th-century hornless sash window, although some glazing bars have been removed. There is a straight joint above the shopfront doorway jamb on the left, and paired brackets support the fascia board. On the left side wall of the rear wing, there is a sprocketted dormer with a late 18th or early 19th-century two-light casement window that has wide panes between horizontal glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected. This building is likely the surviving lower end of what was once a much larger house from the 17th and 18th centuries.
