Description

12 Churchtown is an 18th-century house with a shop front added around the mid-19th century. The front of the house is granite ashlar, while the rest of the exterior is rubble. It has a slate roof with an 18th-century wooden eaves cornice featuring decorative carved details. A tall brick chimney is situated over the right-hand gable end, and the left-hand side of the building adjoins a taller party wall.

The house appears to have a double-depth plan, possibly modified in the 19th century, featuring a shop on the right-hand side and an entrance hall leading to the staircase on the left. There are parallel living and service rooms at the rear.

The two-bay road front retains the original doorway on the left, which has a flat arch with a projecting keystone. A 20th-century door now occupies the opening. A 19th-century shop front is positioned on the right, with pilasters framing the windows. The windows originally had two lights, now featuring paired arch heads. A moulded entablature sits above the shop front. The first floor has late 19th or 20th-century two-pane horned sash windows.

The interior has not been inspected.
