Description
Melville House is an 18th-century house located at the end of a row in Marazion. It is stuccoed with scantle slate roofs and brick chimneys over the gable ends. A roof dormer is situated at the front, with a hipped end at the rear. The building follows a double-depth plan, featuring a large reception room on the left and an entrance/stair hall on the right. Attached at right angles to the rear is a 2-storey, 18th-century wing.
The 3-storey front has a 3-window facade. The ground and first floors were remodelled around the late 19th or early 20th century and now incorporate 3-light canted bay windows in the middle. A doorway on the right has a 20th-century door. Most windows are 4-pane, horned sashes. The rear wing features a wide window opening with a 16-pane, hornless sash window with sidelights. The interior has not been inspected. Melville House is one of a group of 18th-century houses, all of which share a similar late 19th-century front facade remodelling.
