Description
St Elmo is a house that was remodeled and heightened in the late 19th century, originally built in the 18th century. It features a brick front and has hipped roofs made of grouted scantle slate, with rendered chimneys on the side walls. The building has a double-depth plan, consisting of two rooms at the front with a cross passage leading to a central stair that connects to rear service rooms.
The exterior is three storeys high and has a symmetrical north front with three windows on the first floor and a central doorway. The doorway has a six-panel door with fielded panels and an overlight, all framed within a stucco doorcase that includes consoles supporting a moulded entablature. The windows are mostly four-pane horned sashes, except for an original 18th-century twelve-pane hornless sash with wide glazing bars located above the doorway, which has been painted over. There are strings between the floors and stucco aprons under the sills. At the rear, there is a round-headed stair window with horned sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
