Description
Two adjoining houses, likely dating from the 18th century, are situated on Marazion’s North Street. Constructed of painted rubble, the houses feature slate sills and wooden lintels, with concrete tile and asbestos slate roofs and gable ends. A brick chimney is visible over the right-hand gable and at the rear left-hand gable. The overall plan is irregular, forming a U-shape. Each house originally comprised two front rooms, connected by a cross passage, with a service wing projecting at a right angle behind the right-hand room. The left-hand service wing now functions as a separate cottage, Chyandour Cottage.
The south-facing front has a slightly irregular facade with four windows in total. Each house presents a two-window front with a doorway between the ground-floor windows. Penhale, the left-hand house, shows minimal alteration, retaining old, small-paned casement windows. The first-floor window on the left and the right-hand ground-floor window openings are notably wider, each containing a three-light casement. Tresco, the right-hand house, has 20th-century small-paned casements set within the original, irregularly sized openings. The houses have 20th-century replacement doors. The interior of Chyandour Cottage includes muntin and plank partitions. A cobbled forecourt fronts the houses. During recent renovations in 1986, a Portuguese coin, dated 1743, was discovered within Chyandour Cottage.
