Description
Arley House is an 18th-century house located in a row on North Street in Marazion. The front is finished in stucco, and it has an asbestos slate roof that is adjacent to taller buildings on either side, featuring shared brick chimneys. The house has a double-depth plan, which includes a large reception room on the right and an entrance/stair hall on the left, along with a shallow two-storey 18th-century wing that extends at right angles to the rear.
The exterior of the house is three storeys high and has a slightly asymmetrical façade with two windows on the south front. It features a stuccoed plinth, rusticated quoins, and an 18th-century wooden eaves cornice with modillions. The doorway is located on the left side. The ground and first-floor openings were remodeled around the late 19th or early 20th century, and they now include canted bay windows with mid-floor stuccoed cornices and hipped roofs. The left-hand first-floor bay window is supported by two simple Doric columns, creating an open porch in front of the doorway. The windows are horned sashes without glazing bars. The rear wing has a wide window opening with a pair of 9-pane hornless sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
