Description

Castle View is a late 18th-century house situated in a row, accompanied by garden walls to the rear. The house is constructed of elvan ashlar with a Scantle slate roof and brick chimneys projecting from the gable ends. It has projecting eaves at the front. The plan is a double-depth design with a service wing set at a right angle to the rear right, featuring a large reception room on the left and an entrance/stair hall on the right. A substantial 2-storey wing extends at a right angle to the rear.

The south front is slightly asymmetrical, with two windows. It features a plinth, a mid-floor string course, a modillioned cornice over a shaped fascia board, and a doorway on the right side with a 6-panel door, an overlight, and a simple doorcase. The original ground floor openings have flat arches with projecting keystones. The first and second floor openings were remodelled and fitted with 3-light, canted bay windows, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, which have horned sashes without glazing bars. The rear elevation is little altered. The interior of the house has not been inspected.

At the rear, flanking a narrow, long garden, are 18th-century buttressed brick walls laid in Flemish bond. One wall has a roll-moulded coping.
