Description

These are former coastguard's houses, dating to circa 1835. They are constructed with a Flemish bond brick front above a granite ashlar plinth. The corners feature rusticated, chamfered granite quoins, and granite sills are present. Flat brick arches support wide eaves extending from shaped brackets, with panelled soffits beneath. The roof is covered in asbestos slate, with hipped sections at the front and rear, and a hipped roof dormer on each hip. Two brick chimneys rise over the side wall on the right-hand side.

The houses share a symmetrical three-window south front with paired central doorways, accessed by a granite flight of steps flanked by wrought iron balustrades. The original six-panel door remains on the left, with later glazed top panels; a C20 door is on the right. A window above the doorway is blind, while the other windows are circa late 19th or 20th-century horned sashes. Some original hornless 16-pane sashes are found at the rear.

The plan features two identical houses, each with entrances and passages in the middle. Behind this is a front room, a stair hall, and a service room. The interior is said to be largely unaltered since the 20th century.
