Description
Spring Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of painted roughly coursed slate-stone and has a slate roof divided into two sections. The layout features a roughly central through-passage plan, with stacks located immediately on either side of the passage. The building has two storeys.
On the upper floor, there are small 19th-century casement windows positioned directly below the eaves to the left and left of centre. The ground floor includes a rectangular fixed-light window, likely where a former doorway was located, to the left of a 20th-century plank door set in a narrow pointed doorway under a lean-to hood. To the right of the through-passage, there is a 19th-century casement window, and a 20th-century casement window is found at the far right. The prominent ridge stacks, which feature slate drips, are located on either side of the through-passage, with the left stack having a red brick shaft and an external end stack to the right. The roof pitch is shallower to the right of the right ridge stack. The back wall has a 19th-century fixed-light window, along with glazing bar sashes and casements that have L-hinges.
While the interior could not be inspected during the resurvey in January 1988, it was noted to have chamfered cross beams in the left ground-floor room and is likely to contain other features of interest.
