Description

Halgabron Cottage is a house likely dating to the late 17th or early 18th century. It is constructed from slate-stone rubble, with a rendered and painted front elevation, and has a bitumen-coated slate roof with gable ends. There are projecting stone rubble stacks on both the left and right gable ends. Originally, the house comprised two rooms and a cross or through passage, probably with a hall-kitchen to the left and a larger, possibly unheated room to the right. Interior partitions were likely removed, perhaps during remodelling in the mid to late 20th century.

The asymmetrical, two-window front has 20th-century windows set within what are probably original openings. There is a window to the left of centre on both the ground and first floors, and a part-glazed door with a slate hood is located near the centre of the front. The rear elevation remains unaltered, with a 20th-century window to the left and a blocked door opening near the centre. A circa 18th-century two-light casement window is located on the first floor.

The interior is not accessible, but the ceiling beams appear to have been replaced, and a lintel is visible over the fireplace on the left-hand gable end. The front and rear elevations remain unspoilt and unaltered.
