Description
Broadtowne is a house dating from the late 17th century, with extensive renovations carried out in the 20th century. It is constructed of stone rubble, mostly covered in a wash and render, and features a slate roof with diminishing courses that is hipped at both ends. The house has one stone stack on the ridge and a lean-to addition at the rear right. Originally, it had a three-room layout with a through passage, although one wall of the passage has been dismantled.
The building is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with four windows. The central projection is gabled and slate-hung. To the left of this projection, there is a porch with a sloping slate roof. The ground floor has two 20th-century casement windows, while the first floor features four casements, all of which are two- and three-light with glazing bars. Inside, the hall contains a chamfered fireplace lintel, likely made of softwood, with ogee stops, although one jamb has been rebuilt. During renovations in the 1970s, the right gable end stack was dismantled, and the roof timbers were replaced.
