Description
Burnshall Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the 1850s for the Bedford Estate. The main block features slate hanging and has a hipped slate roof with deep eaves and two rendered stacks. The north wing is whitewashed and rendered. The structure is double depth, with the north wing likely serving as service rooms and accommodation for servants. It stands two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay front with a rebuilt central gabled porch. The windows are 12-pane sashes set in deep reveals. Some windows on the east side of the house have been replaced in the 20th century, but the embrasures remain intact. The interior has been largely modernised. The Bedford Estate relocated Burnshall Farm from the other side of the road between Chillaton and Coryton Station to its current location in the 1850s. The farmhouse was linked to the most elaborate planned farmyards of the Bedford Estate in the parish, although the farm buildings have been modernised in the late 20th century.
