Description
Lee Tower is a Grade II listed structure, likely used as a lookout for hunting parties and to command views of the Coryton Estate. It dates from the early to mid 19th century and is constructed of stone rubble with buff brick dressings. The tower is a battlemented, two-stage circular structure that is heated on both floors and features a projecting rectangular stack that is disguised as a buttress.
The tower has a brick-capped plinth and a brick string course located below the battlemented parapet. Access is provided by three steps leading up to a cambered arched doorway, which has brick voussoirs and flush brick jambs. Above this doorway, there is a window with a flat brick arch and flush brick jambs, although the glazing is no longer present. On the southeast side, the tower includes one ground floor window and two first floor windows, all with similar brick dressings and granite sills, with no glazing remaining.
Inside, the inner walls are lined with brick, but the floor of the upper stage and the stairs are missing. The fireplace on the first floor remains intact.
