Description

Holwell Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the mid-18th century, with some remodelling around 1840 and minor later additions and alterations. It is constructed of roughly coursed slate-stone with granite quoins and 19th-century brown brick window heads, some of which feature keystones. The building has a slate roof that is hipped at the right end of the right section.

The farmhouse consists of two sections, with the shorter right part set at an oblique angle to the main range, which has a through-passage to the left at the junction. It is two storeys high. The main range features three segmental-headed 16-paned horned glazing bar sashes on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a two-light multi-paned 19th-century casement to the left, a small 8-paned glazing bar sash to the left of centre, and a five-light multi-paned casement to the right, all with segmental heads. The right range has a segmental-headed 16-paned horned glazing bar sash in the centre on each floor.

There is a 19th-century gabled brick porch over a four-paned door with a rectangular barred overlight to the left. The main range has an integral end stack with drips to the left and an extruded lateral stack, also with drips, at the rear on the right. A prominent stepped lateral stack is located at the rear on the right side of the right range. At the rear, there is a gabled staircase projection with a partly infilled window, flanked by 19th-century lean-tos on either side.

The interior has been significantly altered in the 19th century and to a lesser extent in the 20th century, with inglenook fireplaces having been infilled.
