Description
26 Fore Street is a house that may date back to the early 19th century. It is constructed from rendered and painted stone rubble and features an asbestos slate roof with raised eaves. The building has a rendered chimney stack on the right-hand gable end and a projecting stone rubble chimney stack with a brick shaft on the left-hand gable end. The house has a single depth, likely a two-room plan, and is built into the side of a steep hill, resulting in a single-storey elevation at the rear where the ground is higher. There is a narrow alley on the left-hand gable end. The front of the house is two storeys high with a regular three-window arrangement, and the left-hand corner is splayed on the ground floor to provide access through the narrow alley between this property and No 28 Fore Street. The ground floor and first floor feature what are likely 20th-century two-light casements with leaded diamond glazing bars, along with a 20th-century part-glazed door and a 20th-century extension on the front right. The interior has not been inspected. The side elevation is an important feature in the picturesque narrow alley.
