Description
Hill Cottage is a house with an adjoining store, dating from around the mid-19th century. It is built of stone rubble, with the upper portion rendered and finished with a cement wash. The roof is slate, originally with gable ends, but extended on both sides; the right-hand end is gabled, and the left-hand end is hipped. A brick axial chimney stack was originally located to the right of the centre.
The house has a single depth, with two rooms and a central entry, and was probably extended in the 19th century to the left, incorporating the store, and to the right with a single-room extension. It is built into the side of a steeply sloping hill, with the ground also rising to the right.
The front façade is two storeys and has a regular four-window arrangement. The central symmetrical two-window range features a 19th-century six-panelled door with a slate hood, and two 19th-century four-pane sash windows on both the ground and first floors. To the left, a two-storey store has a 19th-century two-light casement window, a stable-type door, and a narrow casement above. The single-room extension to the right has a small 19th-century four-pane sash window on the ground floor and a 19th-century 12-pane hornless sash window on the first floor. The interior was not inspected.
The building is included on the list for group value.
