Description

Mount Pleasant is a pair of houses that have been converted into one, dating from around the mid-19th century. The building features rendered and painted stone rubble, with slate hanging on the right-hand side wall. It has a slate roof with a gable end on the left and a half-hipped end on the right. There is a brick chimney stack on the left-hand gable end and an axial brick stack situated between the two original houses.

Originally, the plan consisted of two double-depth, two-room houses, each with entrances on the right side. Each house had a stair leading to the rear of the passage and a small service room behind the larger front room on the left. The building stands three storeys high and has a regular four-window front. The left side features brick segmental arches over the openings, while the right side has rendered lintels. The ground rises to the left, resulting in the fenestration on the left-hand range being higher than that on the right.

On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century 16-pane horned sash window and a partly glazed late 19th-century or early 20th-century six-panel door on the left, along with a 19th-century 16-pane horned sash window and a 19th-century six-panel door on the right. The first floor has two 19th-century 12-pane hornless sashes on the left and similar horned sashes on the right. The second floor features two 19th-century three-over-six pane hornless sashes in raking half-dormers on the left and two 19th-century three-over-six pane horned sashes on the right.

Inside, there is an enclosed framed stair in the right-hand house, showcasing complete mid-19th-century carpentry details. The building holds group value and is prominently positioned overlooking the harbour.
