Description
This building is a board school and school house with garden walls at the front, constructed in 1875 by Silvanus Trevail. It is made of local stone rubble with granite and yellow brick dressings around the openings. The roof is steeply pitched with slate tiles, featuring gable ends and pierced ridge tiles, along with brick axial stacks.
The layout includes a long range with cross wings at either end; the left cross-wing serves as the master's house. The building is designed in a Gothic style. The exterior consists of a two-storey house and a single-storey school, with a façade that has a 2:3:2:3:2 bay arrangement. Each end features a projecting gabled cross-wing with diagonal buttresses, while the centre has a small gabled section flanked by buttresses. The master's house on the left has tall sash windows on both floors, with pointed arch heads on the first floor. The right cross-wing contains tripartite lancet windows. The gabled centrepiece features a pair of lancets and a quatrefoil date panel above, with two sash windows on either side in the main range. There are doorways leading to the master's house and the school, each with a quatrefoil light above and shouldered heads on the window openings and doorways.
The front garden wall, dating from the 19th century, is built of stone rubble with brick and granite dressings.
