Description
St Teath County Primary School is a school building completed in 1878 by Silvanus Trevail. It is constructed from stone rubble with brick dressings and features slate hung above a rendered base, along with slate roofs. The building includes a rendered axial stack on the left side for the school house and a rear lateral stack on the right side for the school.
The layout consists of a school house on the left, designed as a double depth structure, likely with a two-room plan heated by the axial stack. To the right is the main school area, which includes a small school room adjacent to the school house. Access is provided through a central towered porch.
The exterior is two storeys high on the left side, with a tall single storey range on the right that matches the height of the school house. The central porch features a pyramid roof and is flanked by the school room and school house, which has a double gabled end facing the front. The porch itself is two storeys tall, with a 20th-century door and a battered granite tower above the first floor, which includes a commemorative plaque. To the left of the porch, there is a window arrangement of 2:3:3 with a 20th-century door and 19th-century sashes, while the right side has a 2:2:2 window front with sashes. Decorative fish-tail slate hanging is present on the front gable ends and the roof.
The interior has not been inspected. Additionally, there are contemporary 19th-century railings and a gate at the front of the school. A similar design by Silvanus Trevail was created for Delabole School, which opened six months later.
