Description
The Stables, dating to 1825, were originally built for Joseph Fayrer, the vicar, and later converted into a private house in 1971. The building is constructed of stone rubble with slate galletting and bands of ashlar. It has a slate roof, a hipped end, and lean-to outshots integrated on both the right and left sides. A rendered end stack is located to the left.
Originally, the stables comprised a rectangular plan, featuring a tack room on the left, four loose boxes for horses, a small heated room for the groom with a rear lateral stack, and a carriage house to the right. A hay loft was positioned above. In 1971, the stables were converted, with single-room extensions added to the rear left and right.
The front elevation displays a small slit window and a 20th-century window within a blocked door opening on the left. The central section features two 19th-century casements set within 2-centred arched openings aligned to the right and left of a large central 20th-century window in a blocked doorway, and a 20th-century window and door on the right. The first floor has two blind 2-centred arched openings flanking a central 20th-century window. A row of blocked pigeon holes is set below the eaves.
The interior retains roughly cut ceiling beams in the groom’s room and bead-moulded ceiling beams in the stables. The building is situated close to the Church of St Teath.
