Description
Billacott Cottage is a small house, probably dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, topped with a rag slate roof that has a gable end on the right and a hipped end on the left. A large projecting stone rubble and cob end stack is located on the right side.
The original layout consists of a single room with an entrance on the left, leading directly into the ground floor room, which is heated by the end stack on the right. There is a small 20th-century lean-to extension on the right gable end, and the entrance has been moved to this extension on the left.
The exterior features two storeys with an asymmetrical front that has a one-window design. On the ground floor, there is a blocked entrance with a 2-light casement on the left and a similar casement to the right. The first floor also has a 2-light casement. Additionally, there are small 20th-century extensions on both the right and left sides.
Inside, there is a large, deeply chamfered main floor beam from the 17th century, with joists that date from the late 19th or 20th century. The fireplace is partly blocked and features a 20th-century grate.
