Description

The Little House is a small house dating from the 17th century, with some small 20th-century extensions. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and possibly cob, topped with a thatched roof that is half-hipped on the left side and gabled on the right. At the right end, there is a large painted stone rubble stack with set-offs and slate weathering. The building has a one-room plan featuring a fireplace in the stack at the higher right end and a stair turret located at the rear right corner. There may have originally been a small unheated room at the left end. The entrance is located in the left end wall, accessed through a 20th-century outshut that includes a 20th-century porch at the front.

The exterior is two storeys high and asymmetrical, with a two-window east front featuring 20th-century two-light casements with leaded panes. There are two casements on the ground floor, each with slate hoodmoulds, and one on the first floor with an eyebrow in the eaves above. The doorway and 20th-century porch are to the left in the 20th-century lean-to outshut. The rear elevation includes a large semi-circular stair turret on the left side.

Inside, there are later ceiling joists and a large stone rubble fireplace with a chamfered timber lintel that has cyme stops and the remains of a bread oven. A plank door with H-L hinges is located at the bottom of the stairs, which lead up in the stair turret. The roof space is not accessible, but straight principals visible in the chamber are likely original.
