Description

The Elms is a house, likely a former account house for Gweek Quay, dating from the early to mid 19th century. The building features stucco on the upper floor and rubble on the ground floor, with a mostly grouted scantle slate hipped L-plan roof, although one side of the rear wing has concrete tiles. It has projecting eaves and cast-iron ogee gutters. The plan is L-shaped, with probably two equal-sized reception rooms at the front, an axial entrance hall, and a stair hall located behind the left-hand room, which is part of the wing at right angles that also contains the service room(s). The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window east front with central round-headed niches on both the ground and first floors. There is a plinth, a mid-floor stucco band, and moulded stucco architraves around the first-floor openings. The ground floor has had its stucco removed, revealing original 12-pane hornless sash windows, which are also present on the other elevations. The stair window features a round head with intersecting glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected.
