Description
This guide post, located near the south end of Alpha Cottage, dates from the early 20th century and is made of cast iron. It features a round shaft with embossed letters and three adjustable pointers. The pointers, which have rounded corners, are attached to the upper part of the shaft by bolted collars that sit above a moulded cornice. Each collar is topped with a moulded ball and a spear-headed finial. The shaft is inscribed with "CORNWALL" vertically, while the pointers indicate distances to various locations: the west pointer shows REDRUTH at 10 miles and TRURO at 16 miles; the south pointer shows HELSTON at 3¾ miles, LIZARD at 11 miles, and ST KEVERNE at 10¼ miles; and the east pointer shows CONSTANTINE at 2½ miles, PENRYN at 8½ miles, and FALMOUTH at 9½ miles.
