Description

This milestone, located on the south side of Fore Street in Hayle, dates from the mid-19th century. It is made of painted dressed granite and has a triangular shape on the shaft with a rectangular base. The two rectangular sides of the shaft face the road at an angle and rise from large pyramid stops. Each side features incised lettering and Arabic numerals. The milestone has a pyramidal head. The inscription on the left side reads: "HAYLE PENZANCE 8 MILES LANDSEND 18," while the right side states: "HAYLE CAMBORNE 5 MILES REDRUTH 9 TRURO 19."
