Description
Nos 31 and 33 on Commercial Road are a pair of small houses built around the mid-19th century. They feature a stuccoed front and have an asbestos slate roof with projecting eaves and original clay ridge tiles. Brick chimneys are located over the party walls on both the left and right sides. No 31 has cast-iron ogee-section gutters.
The houses have a double depth plan, with each house containing a reception room at the front. The entrance halls are positioned in the middle, leading to stair halls at the rear, with service rooms located at the back left and right. The exterior is two storeys high, with a symmetrical four-window front and a pair of doorways in the middle, each with windows above. The design includes a stucco plinth, rusticated quoin strips, and similar rustication around the doorways. The original doors and windows are intact, featuring four-panel doors with three stepped round-arched top panels and overlights, along with hornless sashes that include glazing bars. The interiors have not been inspected.
