Description
44 and 46 Commercial Road are a pair of houses built around the mid-19th century. They feature a stuccoed front, with the left-hand house (No 44) having a grouted scantle slate roof, while the other house has an asbestos slate roof. The buildings have wide eaves and brick chimneys at the gable ends.
The layout consists of a double depth plan, with both houses being identical. Each house has a reception room at the front, and the entrance halls are set back within a large shared porch. It is likely that each entrance hall leads to a stair hall, with kitchens located behind the front rooms.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical four-window front, which includes a stucco plinth and rusticated quoin strips. The wide central doorway is elliptically arched and set back, featuring two original three-panelled doors with overlights. The houses also have original 12-pane hornless sash windows. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to retain its original features and joinery.
