Description
Two houses stand prominently on Fore Street in Chacewater, dating to the mid-19th century. They are constructed with a stucco finish over a timber studwork frame, facing the street. The roofs are hipped and covered with asbestos slate, featuring wide eaves and brick chimneys set over the side walls. Each house is originally one room wide and two rooms deep, with adjoining entrance passages leading to the staircases. The wider left-hand house presents a four-window front, though it is not perfectly symmetrical. A plinth and rusticated quoin strips are visible on the front elevation. A pair of doorways is located slightly to the right of the centre, featuring narrow pilasters and three carved consoles that support a moulded hood. The upper floor windows are 12-pane sashes with original hornless sashes within their moulded wooden architraves. The ground floor windows are 12-pane sashes, but these are later replacements. The interior has not been inspected. The buildings are listed for their contribution to the group value of the street.
