Description
33 and 34 Fore Street is a house with two shopfronts, dating from the mid-19th century. The building features stucco over studwork on the first floor and has a pyramidal corrugated asbestos roof. It is designed to be two rooms wide and two rooms deep, originally with a central passage between the shops. The structure is two storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-window facade facing south onto the street.
The ground floor contains two identical mid-19th century double shopfronts, which flank a central doorway that once led to the passage. Each shopfront features bowed two-light windows with elliptically arched lights and curved glass, alongside a central doorway. The right-hand doorway has been converted into a window. The shopfronts have 20th-century doors with small overlights, and narrow wooden pilasters that connect to the original fascia through carved consoles, topped with a cornice. The terminal consoles are wider than the others.
On the first floor, there are four-pane sash windows that also have similar arched lights, pilasters, consoles, and cornices. Chacewater is known for the preservation of many of its 19th-century shopfronts, and this building is a very good example of a mid-19th century shopfront.
