Description
G.J. and P.D. Lilly is a shop with living accommodation above, dating from the early 19th century. The building is rendered, likely over timber studding, and features a corrugated asbestos roof with a gabled end that adjoins other buildings. There is a brick stack at the left-hand gable end. Originally, the structure had a double-depth plan with a shop at the front and rooms behind, which are now part of the shop, along with a 20th-century wing to the left. The building has two storeys, with the first floor displaying a two-window range of four-pane horned sashes. The ground floor features an impressive early 19th-century double-fronted shop with bowed 20-pane shop windows on either side of the shop entrance, which has a glazed and panelled door. To the right of the entrance, doorways that originally led to the house have been glazed with a 12-pane window. The shop and doorway are flanked by pilasters and an entablature, with a fascia that bows out over the shop windows and a moulded cornice above. This building is noted for its fine 19th-century shop front, which contributes to Chacewater's architectural character.
