Description

This is a pair of houses built in the middle of the 19th century, situated in a row on St George’s Road, Truro. The houses are constructed of stucco, with an asbestos slate roof, a hipped end on the right-hand side, and projecting eaves at the front. A brick chimney extends from the party wall between the two houses, while the right-hand house has a rendered chimney. The houses were designed as mirror images of each other, with a central entrance for both properties, a reception room at the front, and service rooms behind. They are two storeys high, with a basement, and have a four-window symmetrical front. The original windows are 12-pane hornless sashes. Number 19, on the left, is plain stucco, while Number 20 has stucco rustications to its facade. The two doorways are centrally located beneath a shared porch, featuring a cantilevered cornice with modillions. The doorways originally had panelled doors with overlights, though the doors themselves are now different. The interiors have not been inspected. The shallow basement forecourts are bordered by retaining walls topped with iron railings, each post finished with carved fleur-de-lis finials.
