Description

No. 21 and the attached forecourt walls and railings are a pair of houses, dating from the early to mid-19th century. One of the houses is now a shop with accommodation above, and is known as No. 30 Ferris Town. The houses are constructed of stucco, with an asbestos slate hipped roof and projecting eaves at the front, supported by widely-spaced brackets. No. 21 has cast-iron ogee gutters. The houses share a similar plan, with the left-hand house having a reception room extending the full width of the front, and the shop (No. 30 Ferris Town) featuring a full-width shop front and service rooms behind. The two-storey facade has a 4-window range. No. 21 has a central basement and ground floor windows, along with two first-floor windows; all are original 12-pane hornless sash windows. No. 30 Ferris Town has an early 20th-century shop front with a doorway on the right-hand side. The arched, horned sash windows have hoodmoulds and terminal stucco quoins. The interiors were not inspected. No. 21 has a shallow basement forecourt with a front retaining wall, surmounted by iron railings with carved fleur-de-lis finials.
