Description
2 and 4 Beacon Terrace are a pair of houses built in the early to mid 19th century. The front is finished in stucco on rubble, while the rear features slate hanging. They have a hipped roof made of asbestos slate and brick chimney stacks. The houses have a double-depth plan and rise two storeys above a basement, with a five-bay front displaying a 1:3:1 fenestration pattern.
The design includes a moulded parapet cornice with mid-floor and first-floor string courses. The central three bays project slightly forward and feature hoods supported by consoles, with segmental pediments above the windows over the doorways. The original windows are 12-pane hornless sashes. Notable features include fine original glazed porches at the second and fourth bays, which have end consoles, moulded cornices, and patterned overlights on the sides.
The rear retains original window arrangements on the upper floors, except for the stair bay of No. 2. Notably, there is a round-arched upper stair window in No. 1, and the other bays are canted. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
