Description
Nos 5 and 6 on St Peters Hill are a pair of houses that date from the early to mid-19th century, or may have been remodeled from an 18th-century house. They feature granite steps, stucco on the ground floor, and slate hanging on the first and second floors. The roof is partly covered with slurried asbestos slate and has a gable end on the right, adjacent to No 7 on the left. A cast iron ogee gutter runs along the eaves.
The houses have a double depth plan, with one reception room at the front of each house and passages along the ground floor party wall. It is likely that one house is larger on the first and second floors, with service rooms at the rear. The buildings rise three storeys and have a symmetrical facade with three windows facing the road. There are two doorways in the middle, separated by a narrow pier, each with a moulded hood supported by moulded consoles. The original doors are six-panel designs with late glazing in the top panels. The ground floor features rusticated stucco quoins and projecting keys, while all windows are late 19th-century four-pane horned sashes. The interiors have not been inspected.
