Description
No. 1 Kersey Road is a house located at the end of a terrace, dating from the early 19th century. It features textured render over stone, with slate sills and granite doorsteps. The roof is covered with concrete tiles, which originally were scantle slate, and there are brick chimneys at the left gable end and the right party wall. A cast iron ogee gutter is present.
The layout includes a kitchen/living room on the left and a slightly smaller parlour on the right, with a cross passage in between that leads to the stairs and narrower service rooms at the rear. The house is two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical two-window front facing the road, with flush beaded bottom panels and some later glazed windows. The original wooden doorcase features plain pilasters and a shallow basket arched head that springs from moulded corbelled capitals, topped with a simple entablature. The interior has not been inspected. This house is part of a group of early 19th-century houses that includes Nos 2, 3, and 4 Kersey Road.
