Description
No. 7 Market Place is a house located in the middle of a terrace of three houses, dating from the 18th century. The building features painted rubble and rendered cob on the upper two-thirds, with a steep scantle slate roof and brick chimneys positioned over the party walls, as well as a tall brick stack over the gable end of the rear wing. It has cast-iron ogee gutters.
The layout consists of two rooms at the front, flanking a cross passage. There is an integral single-storey outshut behind the left-hand room, likely serving as the living room, and a back kitchen in a two-storey wing at right angles behind the right-hand room, which is probably the parlour. The exterior is two-storeys high and nearly symmetrical, featuring a two-window northwest front with a doorway slightly to the right of the middle. The original or 19th-century six-panel door has two top panels that have been later glazed. There is a wider window opening to the left of the doorway, with late 19th-century horned sash windows.
At the rear, there is an original 18th-century twelve-pane two-light casement window with thick glazing bars that lights the outshut, and a blocked raking dormer window that may have originally lit the stair or possibly the attic. The interior has not been inspected.
