Description

No 3 Riverside is a house in a terrace, dating from the late 18th century. It features painted rubble walls with a remnant of slate hanging to the left of the doorway. The main steep roof is covered with concrete tiles and has a brick chimney over an external stack on the right, adjacent to the party wall. To the left, there is a hipped roof dormer with an original 12-pane, 2-light casement window. A scantle slate roof is present at a lower level, set back and adjoining the gable end on the right.

The layout includes a large parlour at the front, with a cross passage leading to the stair and a rear service room. There is also a slightly later 2-storey wing set back and adjoining the gable end on the right, along with a single-storey later lean-to at the gable end of the wing. The house has two storeys plus an attic, facing southeast. The original front features a one-window design on the left and a one-window front of the wing set back on the right. The original front has a doorway on the left with a 6-panel door, where the top two panels have been later glazed, set back behind an original pedimented wooden doorcase with moulded cornices.

On the right side, there are canted bay windows on both the ground and first floors, featuring an original 20-pane fixed centre light and 10-pane casement sidelights above old hornless sashes with glazing bars. The wing likely has original 2-light casements with glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected but may retain original features similar to those found in No 2. This house is part of an unusual group of 18th-century houses.
