Description

Bute Cottage is a mid-19th century shop with accommodation, now a house within a row, located on the south side of Coventry Road in Flushing. The front is finished with incised stucco, and the roof is covered with dry Delabole slate. A brick chimney rises over the party wall towards the rear, left side. The right gable end extends above an earlier building. The building has a plan of two rooms deep, with a shop front and entrance passage on the right. It is two storeys high with a single window facing the north road. The ground floor features a four-light wooden shop front on the left and a doorway on the right. The shop front has pilasters and a simple entablature above the fascia. The window lights are arched, with moulded capitals and imposts. The original three-panel doorway has round-headed top panels, an overlight, and is recessed within a doorway with ornate consoles and a simple entablature. A twelve-pane horned sash window is located on the first floor above the shop window. The interior has not been inspected. Bute Cottage is one of the few surviving small-scale 19th century shop fronts in this area of Cornwall.
