Description
Rogers Salon is a mid-19th century house with a shop located on the south side of Fore Street in Chacewater. The building features an incised stucco front, with painted rubble sides and rear. It has a hipped asbestos slate roof that has slightly projecting eaves and brick chimneys on the side walls. The layout consists of a two-room double depth plan and the building stands two storeys high.
The north front has three windows, showcasing original 12-pane hornless sashes with old glass, all set in original openings with moulded wooden architraves. To the left, there is a 15-pane shop window from the 19th century, which was likely originally wider to the right. There are paired entrances to the right; the left shop entrance has been remodelled and blocked, while the right entrance to the house remains intact, featuring a 4-panel door with an overlight that has marginal panes, flanked by wooden pilasters. Above the shopfront and house doorway, there is an original continuous fascia with consoles and a moulded cornice. Sashes are also present on the sides and rear of the building. The interior has not been inspected. Chacewater is known for its many surviving 19th-century shopfronts, and this building is an interesting example.
