Description

No. 9, Chamberlain Street is an early 19th century house situated at the end of a terrace of five. The exterior is rendered with stone dressings, colourwashed, with a gable-end in plain rubble. It has a Welsh slate roof and red brick chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high, with an attic and basement, and has two bays. Features include a plinth, end pilasters that return as an eaves band course, and sash windows with 12 panes in plain architraves. The entrance is located in the lower section of the second bay, featuring a six-panel door raised onto three stone steps. Above the door is a rectangular fanlight with ornamental glazing set within a stone doorcase of Tuscan pilasters, with paterae, dosserets, a plain frieze, a moulded cornice, and a central blocking course. There are small, flat-roofed dormers with slate cheeks and two-light casements with small panes. A cast-iron ogee gutter is also present. The interior has not been inspected. Nos. 1-9 together form a consistent early 19th century terrace design.
