Description

No. 5, Chamberlain Street is an early 19th-century house forming part of a terrace of five. The exterior is rendered with stone dressings, all colourwashed, and has a Welsh slate roof. There is one brick and one stone ashlar chimney stack.

The house is two storeys with an attic and basement, and has two bays. Features include a plinth, end pilasters that return as an eaves band course, and sash windows without glazing bars in plain openings. The entrance is in the lower bay, featuring a 6-panel door on two stone steps, leading to a rectangular fanlight with ornamental glazing. The doorcase is crafted from Tuscan pilasters with paterae, dosserets, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice below a central blocking course. Small, flat-roofed dormers are visible in the roof, along with 2-light casements and a cast-iron ogee gutter. Grilles are present in the paving of the basement. The interior was not inspected.

Nos. 1-9 (the odd numbers) form a consistent early 19th-century terrace design.
