Description

Saltyre House is a house in a row, dating from the 15th century and refronted in the late 18th century. It has a rendered and colourwashed exterior with a Welsh slate roof featuring a coped gable on the west side and an abutment on the east, along with concrete block chimney stacks. The building is L-shaped, with an 18th-century front block and parallel rear ranges, the right side dating from the 15th century and the left side from around 1800.

The exterior consists of two storeys with attics and seven bays. It features a plinth, cornice, and a plain parapet. The plain sash windows are set in moulded architraves. The entrance is located in the third bay, featuring a six-panel door within a semicircular arched recess, topped with a fanlight and framed by pilasters that support an open pediment hood. The seventh bay includes a wider semicircular arched throughway with a pair of 20th-century doors. There are three flat-roofed dormers situated behind the parapet.

At the back of the building, there are two extensions that run northwards. The western extension is from the late 18th or early 19th century and features Venetian windows, while the eastern wing appears to be from the 15th century.

Inside, the 15th-century wing is noted for its thick walls, with three upper cruck frames visible in the roof space, traces of a cambered collar, and some stop-chamfered curved windbraces. There is also a good late 18th-century dogleg staircase, although it has not been seen.
