Description
31 Sadler Street is an early 19th-century building that originally served as a house and is now used as offices. The exterior is rendered and colourwashed, topped with a Welsh slate roof that sweeps at the corner, featuring plain gables and ashlar chimney stacks.
The building has two storeys with an attic. It has a single bay facing Sadler Street, a curved corner bay, and two bays along Chamberlain Street. There is a plinth and pilasters on the bays, along with a cornice band. The shop front, likely from the 1930s, is located on Sadler Street and the corner bay, featuring rendered pilasters that flank a pair of three-panel doors with a rectangular fanlight on the left, followed by a 20-pane bronze casement window. On the first floor, there are 12-pane sash windows with plain architraves, including one that is built into the curve of the building.
On the Chamberlain Street side, the ground floor has bronze casements, while the first floor features a 12-pane sash window in bay two, and bay one has a blind window with painted glazing bars. The roof has three flat-roofed dormers with modern casement windows.
The property was constructed as part of the terrace that includes Nos 1 to 9 Chamberlain Street, extending its design into Sadler Street with a graceful curve, which is a typical feature of urban development in the early 19th century.
