Description

This is a house, later adapted into a shop and offices, dating from circa 1829 in Ludlow. The building is constructed of brick with a hipped roof covered in Welsh slate, featuring brick end stacks and a stack to the rear. It rises four storeys plus a cellar and has a two-window facade. The windows are predominantly tripartite sashes with 2/2, 6/6 and 2/2 glazing patterns, set beneath grooved stucco lintels incorporating keyblocks. The third-floor windows are smaller, with 1/2, 3/6, and 1/2 glazing. The building has soffited eaves, and a stone-coped gable on the right side. A 20th-century shopfront occupies the front, incorporating a central entrance within a porch supported by cast-iron columns. A 20th-century six-panel door is set within a moulded doorcase with an entablature on pilasters on the left returned side. A tall staircase window is visible, set beneath a semi-circular segmental arch. The upper courses of the brickwork are of a paler colour. The angled rear elevation features various sashes with glazing bars, set beneath gauged brick flat arches with painted stucco keyblocks. A rainwater head on the side elevation is inscribed "TBH 1829", and the upper front lintels are inscribed "TH 1829".
