Description
No. 17 King Street is a shop and dwelling, now functioning solely as a shop, dating from the 18th century. The building is constructed of brick and features a Welsh slate roof, with 20th-century composite tiles at the rear and a brick chimney stack. It stands three storeys high, with an attic and cellar, and has a four-window range. The early 20th-century plain sashes are set in earlier moulded cases with cambered heads, all under gauged brick arches. There are storey bands and similar fenestration throughout, along with moulded wood eaves. The shopfront is from the 20th century, and to the left, there is a narrow, half-glazed door in rendered reveals beneath a concrete lintel.
Inside, the building features 19th-century stick balusters on the winder staircase, corner fireplaces in the left front rooms, and two-panel doors. The staircase leading to the attic is also from the 19th century and reveals 18th-century roof trusses, blocked lights, and a brick stack. The building is included for its group value.
