Description
No. 6 King Street is a shop and dwelling that features a 19th-century front but has an earlier core. The building is made of rendered brick and has a slate roof, with a 18th-century brick cross axial stack at the rear. It has a double-depth plan and stands four storeys tall, with a two-window range. The early 19th-century windows include 6/6 sashes on the ground floor and 2/2 sashes on the second and third floors. The right side of the building has a recessed panel beneath a timber lintel. The rear is roughcast and has two mid 19th-century 6/6 sashes and a 20th-century fire door, along with three 6/6 sashes with broad glazing bars above. There are also two 6/6 sashes, a 20th-century casement, and a 19th-century fixed light, along with another 20th-century fire door above, all featuring broad cases.
Inside, the upper floors contain 19th-century fire grates, doors, architraves, panelling, and a stick-baluster staircase. The rear wing includes a plasterwork chimney breast with a panelled cupboard above, featuring spindle balusters, set against 17th-century brickwork. The roof was replaced in the 20th century, supported by early 19th-century trusses.
