Description
Nos. 2 and 2A on Broad Street are shops and dwellings dating from the early 17th century, with restorations from the late 19th and late 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame with plaster and render, topped by a plain tile roof that has twin gables at the front. It stands three stories tall and has a two-window range. The façade includes 6-light oriel windows supported by enriched consoles and moulded underhangs, with decorative mullions and cornices, all set within post-and-pan framing. There is a carved bressummer supported by figurehead consoles, along with enriched 3-light mullions that have weather-hoods. The plate is also enriched, and the building boasts ornate pierced barge-boards with pendants and finials. The 20th-century shopfront features a central entrance on the left, with a recessed plank door and a continuing shopfront for No. 5 on the right, all beneath ornate bressummer boards with enriched consoles. The decoration has been restored in pine.
