Description
Nos. 6, 8, and 8A on Middleton Street are two houses that now function as a house and shop. They date back to the 17th century and feature a timber frame with an early 19th-century brick exterior. The roof is covered with pantiles, which are black glazed at the front. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, though it is not symmetrical.
There are two doorways; the one on the left (for number 8) has a panelled design with glazed upper panels and a pedimented doorcase. The other doorway is from the 20th century and retains parts of a 19th-century doorcase, but lacks a pediment. To the left of the left door is an early 19th-century three-light casement window, which is set under gauged skewback arches. On the far right, there is a 20th-century shop display window. The first floor features three similar 19th-century casement windows.
The building has a modillion timber eaves cornice and a bell-based gabled roof. At the rear, there are two two-storey cross wings; the north-west wing has a rebuilt upper storey on its flank, while the south-east wing has not been altered. There are ridge stacks located on the cross wings.
